BurlyCon Scholarship Opportunities

BurlyCon values accessibility and diversity. We appreciate the economic and opportunity challenges faced by some of our attendees. We want to make attending the Convention as accessible as possible, of course while still operating a viable organization. So, we offer many options to help folks attend: low-price early-bird
passes, installment payment plans, pay-what-you-can volunteer positions, and scholarships.

The Scholarship program provides financial assistance to Burlesque community members so they can attend the Convention. The funds come from internal budget allocations and generous donations of our Benefactors and Donors.

Scholarship applications are carefully considered by a diverse committee of BurlyCon Volunteers and Directors. We weigh all factors presented in the application including: financial circumstances due to employment, medical needs, distance to travel; the potential gain the applicant would receive because of
access to the convention; applicant’s distance from urban hubs; and what the applicant’s work and passion contributes to the larger Burlesque community. We prioritize individuals who have experienced specific challenges building BurlyCommunity, for many reasons.

We ask applicants to describe their Burlesque journey whether just beginning, or many years in. We want to know what Burlesque and the Burlesque Community mean to each applicant, and what they wish to bring to that Community.

For 2018 we are delighted to offer 5 Scholarships (full weekend pass registration only) and 1 Fellowship (full weekend pass registration and shared hotel room accommodations). Applications will be accepted through March 15th, and Applicants will be notified by Friday, March 23rd.

Apply for a Scholarship!

Does applying for a scholarship give you the jitters? Here is what our past scholarship winners had to say:
“…go for it, put the intention in, and have faith … We never get anywhere without trying!”

Should an applicant not be awarded a Scholarship, there are also pay-what-you-can volunteer opportunities and installment payment plans.

If you or your organization is interested in sponsoring a Scholarship, or purchasing a weekend pass to gift to someone in your community, please learn more about our Scholarships and our new BurlyCon Gift Brigade program.
