Accessibility at BurlyCon

Helping People by Removing Barriers

At BurlyCon, accessibility isn’t a checklist, it’s an ongoing practice. Each year, we look closely at how people move through the convention, where barriers show up, and what support makes it easier for more folks to fully participate.

What does that look like in practice? Here, you’ll find an overview of the accessibility support so you can plan your experience.

Onsite Accessibility Support

During the convention, in-person accessibility support is available throughout the weekend. Attendees can expect resources designed to help address needs as they arise and reduce friction in moving through the event.

  • Accessibility stations are placed around the convention and include sensory tools, seating, and charging access for mobility devices.
  • Hospitality is easy to reach and available as a point of support throughout the day.
  • The Sensory Calming Area offers a space designed to support regulation across all senses—sound, sight, smell, touch, and taste.
  • COVID safety tools are available.
  • Assistance is provided for attendees with limited mobility.
  • Support is available for those who need help booking accessible hotel rooms.

An onsite Accessibility Liaison is available to assist with questions, concerns, or problem-solving in real time:

The hotel operates a year-round shuttle system: however, shuttles are not wheelchair accessible.

Sensory Calming Area

Previously referred to as the “quiet space,” the Sensory Calming Area is intentionally designed to support regulation and grounding across multiple senses. This space is available for anyone who may need a break from stimulation during the convention.

If you have questions about accessibility or would like to discuss specific needs ahead of the convention, we encourage you to reach out early. Our goal is to support your participation in a way that feels clear, respectful, and responsive.
