BurlyCon 2016 Packing Guide: Camp Energy and Burlesque Sparkle

Use this Complete Packing Guide.

Think of BurlyCon as burlesque’s summer camp.

For one weekend, you step out of show mode and into learning mode. That means you should pack for comfort first. While we offer themed evening events (more on those below), your yoga pants will likely see far more action than your beaded gown.

So, let’s get you packed.

Start with the Essentials: Comfort Comes First

Pack clothing you can move in. Bring comfortable shoes. Plan for dancewear like leggings, tank tops, and legwarmers. Add character, dance, or tap shoes if your classes require them.

Because Seattle in autumn runs cool and rainy, pack layers. Bring a jacket, hat, umbrella, or raincoat. You’ll thank yourself later.

Class-Specific Items. Next, think about your schedule.

If you’re taking prop-based classes, bring your fans, boas, gloves, or stockings. If you plan to learn pastie twirling, pack pasties. If you’re enrolled in hair or wig classes, bring the appropriate accessories.

Additionally, pack your makeup kit. Bring a notebook and pen—or your preferred tech alternative. Don’t forget a water bottle and snacks to keep your energy up.

If you’re working on a costume or craft project, bring it along. You’ll find expert eyes everywhere.

Hotel & Lounge Must-Haves

Bring a swimsuit for the pool and hot tub. Pack a robe to wear over revealing outfits in public spaces. Toss in a camera or smartphone so you can document your weekend and share it with the world.

Selling, Buying, and Promoting. BurlyCon doesn’t stop at classes.

Bring business cards or flyers for yourself or your troupe. Pack cash for the vending area—you will want everything. If you plan to participate in the Swap Meet, bring about one grocery bag’s worth of gently used sparkle to sell or trade.

Plan for the Special Events

BurlyCon evenings bring their own magic.

  • Thursday: Vintage Meet & Greet—Lean into vintage beach attire and kick off Camp BurlyCon in style.
  • Friday: Class Photo + Dance Party—We’ll take the Class of 2016 photo right before the dance. Arrive dressed and ready to move. For the Camp BurlyCon dance party, channel tacky khakis, camp couture, or simply yourself. Just remember to cover nips and nether regions.
  • Saturday: Tales Around the Glampfire—Wear pajamas. Bring a pillow or blanket. Chairs will be provided. If you bring a beverage, use a cup with a lid.

Bring an Act to Work On

One of the most powerful opportunities at BurlyCon is Peer Review. If you signed up to share your work-in-progress, bring your act. You’ll receive thoughtful feedback from peers and seasoned professionals.

Growth happens when you show up prepared.

And Yes — Bring Cash

Finally, bring your dollars. This year’s convention features more vendors and official BurlyCon merchandise than ever before. While some vendors accept credit cards and an ATM is onsite, cash makes browsing easier.

Pack smart. Pack light. Pack sparkle.

We’ll see you at Camp BurlyCon.
