Each class type supports a specific learning experience.
Teaching at BurlyCon starts with two simple questions: what do you want to teach at BurlyCon? And how do you want your students to experience your work?
Every idea can be taught in multiple ways. A lecture can become a workshop. A workshop can become a multi-part intensive. The format shapes the room, the energy, and the outcomes.
We offer three distinct class types you can teach at BurlyCon. Each one supports a different kind of learning. Choosing the right structure helps your teaching proposal shine and ultimately helps students get the most from your teaching.
Let’s walk through the options.
You choose the format that best supports your material.
We have three class types. Each class type creates a different learning environment. The structure shapes the experience. It influences pacing, depth, and student engagement. Before you select a format, clarify your goals.
- What do you want students to leave with?
- How much time do you realistically need?
- Who is this class for?
Those answers make a difference in your teaching experience, and the experience of your students.
Standard Classes
Most presenters begin with a Standard Class.
This format runs 60 or 90 minutes. It works well for choreography, technique, makeup, costuming, performance development, and business topics. You can teach through lecture, discussion, or movement. Some classes focus on information. Others prioritize physical participation. Standard Classes offer flexibility and broad access. They form the foundation of the curriculum.
BurlyLabs
If your material requires tools, materials, or tactile instruction, consider a BurlyLab. BurlyLabs run 90 or 120 minutes and serve smaller groups. Students learn by doing. They style wigs, apply makeup, build props, or construct costume pieces. The emphasis stays on applied skill development. Participants leave with something tangible or immediately usable. Registration is required, and some labs include a materials fee.
M.E.T. (Master Ecdysiast Track)
For advanced instructors working with experienced performers, the Master Ecdysiast Track offers deeper exploration. The M.E.T. (or MET) is new for 2026. This format supports specialty and professional-level coursework. METs assume foundational burlesque skills. They focus on refinement, industry standards, and niche disciplines. MET courses run as one- to three-part series, allowing sustained growth. Registration confirms prerequisites and maintains focused class sizes.
No format is better than another, and each serves a purpose.
Standard Classes create access and range. BurlyLabs provide immersive, hands-on depth. The Master Ecdysiast Track cultivates advanced craft.
A strong curriculum begins with thoughtful design! As you prepare your submission, choose the structure that best serves your content and your students. And remember to use the Presenter Submission Guide to shape a clear, complete, and thoughtful submission.
