BurlyCon is a pretty high-energy weekend. Aside from the classes themselves, which can be physically and/or emotionally demanding, the sheer volume of socializing, dancing, giggling, and fun can be extremely overwhelming. For those of us who like a quiet place to recharge, BurlyCon has lots of awesome spaces to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the con.
The Library
Spend some time with the BurlyCon book collection! Curated by Jo “Boobs” Weldon, the Library includes biographies, commentary, and photos from the Golden Age to the Revival, many of which were pulled from Jo’s personal collection. You can also peruse a selection of papers written by academics and your peers, and your peers who are academics! Check out works by Dr. Lucky, Peekaboo Pointe, Maggie Werner, and others, with topics ranging from rejection to gender. The Library even has a scrapbooking station for anyone interested in getting crafty and saving memories.
The Recharge Room – New in 2015!
Across the hall from the Hospitality rooms is a chill-out, relaxation space we’re calling the Recharge Room. Come quiet your mind and body with whatever meditative practice you love. Check out the schedule for occasional programming, such as meditation and 12-step meetings. Otherwise please feel free to stretch, do yoga, sit quietly, or just relax.
Hospitality
Hospitality is a snack-filled oasis that offers space to recharge, rest, and socialize in a low-pressure way. This year Hospitality will be offering:
• Tasty snacks meant to keep you going from meal to meal
• Coffee and tea all day
• Daily Fresh Food Happy Hours with fruits, veggies, proteins and other goodies
• The BurlyBar every evening (All proceeds go directly back to the Con, so buy a round for your friends!)
If you don’t have your passes yet, register today and get ready for a super fun, thought-provoking weekend of burlesque education!
